“Under the sea”

Here you are sweetie~
Your second story!

I really hope you enjoy this sweetie! And I’m sorry, in advanced, if it gets all clustered or confusing! Tomorrow shall be better!

Nico sat upon a moss covered rock. The gentle sway of the ocean’s current making it sway back and forth. Under her breath she hummed a tune as her fingers worked the line of the net. The net was wrapped around her waist like a belt. One side longer then the other and all on the line were little baubles and fishing lures that she had removed off hooks lost at sea. Nico had always been interested in the things above and with the things that took fish and other creatures away adoring her body. Some in the seashell binder she made, others tied to her hair. Such baubles had most creatures staying away, or at least the ones that knew what they stood for.

It made her lonely after awhile for no aquatic life would venture near her in fear of being taken to the surface. It made Nico sigh that caused bubbles to raise towards the surface as she let go of the net. It shifted with current and soon was out of sight. The Mermaid looked upon her crimson tail and wondered if she would ever find someone. To busy lost in her thoughts she didn’t notice a large oval shadow getting closer to her.

On the surface a boat was making it’s way out onto the the crystal clear water of the ocean. The shallows were in complete view as the water could not be any clearer. Furan gazed over the edge of the boat in excitement. Fish swimming away like silver clouds and soon a reef came into view. She signaled the captain to stop the boat just over the reef so she could sketch it for the book she was illustrating. With her keen eyes though she noticed something swaying in the ocean current. At first she thought it was some kind of moss, but the reddish brown color was oddly unique. Upon closer inspection she noticed that the reddish brown moss was connected to a human form. Surprised she leaned further over the edge. The only thing she wasn’t counting on was the ledge being slippery from the wake the boat had created. Her hands slipping and her center of gravity above the ledge itself Furan soon found herself in the water.

It was a shock suddenly being in the ocean but not so much so that Furan didn’t find the surface again. The captain of the boat laughed saying something about over enthusiastic artists. Despite getting some nice clothes wet Furan laughed as well.

As for Nico the splash broke her out of her thoughts and the most beautiful sound that followed a few moments later had her looking around. She then spotted something close to the surface. With natural curiosity she got up from her moss covered rock and swam over. As she got closer she noticed that what was in the water was what she saw on the boats. The creature that pulled in the nets and lines that caught fish and sometimes lost them on the ocean floor for her to find. She thought about hiding, but a thought crossed her mind making her stop.

Maybe the creatures that lost the items that took the fish away wouldn’t be afraid of her. Maybe, she could actually make a friend. Swimming closer she looked at the appendages in the water. They swung back and forth to help keep the person away. She was slightly tempted to grab one and look at it further but decided against it. She swam a couple more times around the person before popping up to the surface. The person in front of her was looking at her in complete shock. As if they had never seen a mermaid before. Which confused Nico.

Furan just stared at the mermaid before an idea hit her. Quickly swimming to the back of the boat and getting up on the low dock that was there for scuba divers to sit upon and grabbed her sketch book. Within it’s pages she wrote a simple word.

‘Hello’

Nico looked at the word and tilted her head in confusion. She couldn’t understand it. But maybe this was the way the person greeted others. Not knowing on how to respond Nico just waved back. It seemed to make Furan happy. And the two began interacting more.

It was quickly found out though that the Mermaid couldn’t read nor speak for not having need of it. Instead she used hand gesters to communicate or made small random noises. Thankfully Furan was patient and Nico was able to say “Furan, Hello, How are you and Goodbye.” Before the Captain cut in, he had seen a mermaid before surprisingly, that a storm was coming towards them. Sadden Furan didn’t want to leave. It was a joy learning from and teaching the mermaid in front of her. The captain though seemed to have already thought of a plan. Knowing some of the mermaid hand gestures he gave Nico a buoy and told her to tie it to something that won’t break and that He and Furan would be back tomorrow. Nico nodded and waved farewell, her heart sinking a bit that she had to say goodbye so soon. In fact she kept waving until the boat was no longer in sight and then went to tie the end of the buoy line to an old crashed aircraft that she lived in. Despite the heavy heart she knew deep down that she would see the beautiful Furan again.
